In 2018, I was living in Wilmington when Hurricane Florence hit. The storm came ashore at Wrightsville Beach and was a massive soaker, dumping more than 30 inches of rain in some areas.

Having started my construction and remodeling business five years prior, I watched as contractors, especially roofers, flocked to the Port City to help rebuild. Problem was, many of these “storm chasers” didn’t know what they were doing—they just saw it as an opportunity to make a quick buck. Worse yet, the repairs they did make only made a bad situation worse. Steadily, I saw friends and neighbors, even former customers, fall prey to shoddy roof repairs by subpar contractors.

That’s when the idea for Waterdog Roofing came to me.

You see, there are usually several ways to do a job but only a few ways to do the job right. And doing things right is what my team and I are committed to—every customer, every time. In addition, we also believe in educating customers about the roofing process. We’ll explain everything from start to finish; no question or concern is too small.

So while I can’t guarantee we’ll never see another Hurricane Florence, I can guarantee that Waterdog Roofing will be there if it happens, no matter what your roofing need.

OUr story

Wes Gray

"Jacob was on time and communicated well with us. Once the supplies were delivered, his employees came in, ripped the roof off, inspected it and laid barrier, and applied the new shingles. At the end of each day they left the job site clean. He even helped us deal with our insurance company which is always a headache. Waterdog will always be the roofer we call on."

JACOB STOCKTON

Originally from Charlotte, Jacob moved to Wilmington in 1999, where he earned a bachelor's degree in finance from UNCW and discovered his love of the local community. Jacob’s passion for carpentry began in childhood—passed down from generations before—and included honing his woodworking skills in his family’s basement workshop and building a multi-level log home with his dad one summer during high school. In 2015, Jacob founded Southern Cypress Renovation & Repair and in 2018, after seeing the destruction of Hurricane Florence, launched Waterdog Roofing, which specializes in residential, commercial and storm damage roof repair. In his free time, Jacob likes surfing, spending time with his family and catching the occasional Sunday afternoon nap!

MEET

our number cruncher

After graduating from UNCW, Ashley began her accounting career working for a family-owned restaurant. She fell in love with the can-do attitude that comes with the culture of a small business and has formed her career around that same principle.

Before joining Waterdog Roofing, Ashley founded Blend Business Solutions, which serves the business accounting needs of small and mid-sized businesses. Ashley’s energetic, take charge, personality is infectious and shows through her dedication to every client’s account.

When Ashley’s not crunching numbers, she likes drinking wine and throwing axes (long story).
